The McKinley Railway is the culmination of a long-held dream by British modeller David Townend to build and operate a large computer-controlled layout in his home in the West of England. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, as a child David used to stand at big through stations like Bristol Temple Meads and watch the sheer quantity and range of trains coming and going. Not having a timetable or any real link to the railways, David would have no idea what he was going to see next. A freight train? A passenger train? Maybe even a parcels. This excited him and at such a young age he understood that stuff was coming from somewhere and going to somewhere. The movement, the flow and the interdependence fascinated him and the dream of that big model railway which could mimic what he saw started to form, in the guise of Hornby Track Plan 18.
